I watched today as my two baby hummingbirds flew out of their nest. It is now six hours later and they haven't returned so I don't think I will see them again. I haven't seen the mother for several days so I think she taught them how to fly and sip nectar and left them on their own. It was one of those sweet/bitter moments. They needed to become independent but I hated to see them grow up and fly away. You can tell from the picture that they are all feathered out and have long black beaks. They were still tiny though probably just a little over an inch long.

That is really neat mom. It would be fun to watch something like that happen in you backyard. The only thing we get to watch is Wasps making their nests... not so much fun! Love ya.
Your second nest and I haven't had one yet :( What a great thing to watch!
