Arizona to Love in the Springtime
This past week we have gone looking for spring flowers and flowing water. Just walking outside our home we came on this scene. Green!! It is so wonderful to have green hills instead of our normal brown especially with the desert plants blooming.
The Gila River which flows, when it does flow, is less than a mile north of us. The water is almost flowing bank to bank which really is unusual and has been for weeks now. Unfortunately, it is starting to go down. I guess summer is coming.
Friday we took a hike with Tanya and Christian into the White Tanks area which is only about 13 miles north of us. We hiked up to the waterfall--there really was a waterfall coming over the side of the mountain. It was quite refreshing to have water in our desert. Christian walked through the pool at the bottom of the waterfall and climbed up on a ledge as you can see. The water almost came up to his armpits in the pool and icy cold.
There are pictographs in the White Tanks and you can see by the following pictures, I did find the spring flowers I was looking for--yellow poppies, pink penstemons and blue lupines.

And the last sign of spring is our baby hummingbirds. For the second year in a row a pair of hummingbirds have built a nest in our tree just outside our bedroom bay window. She has two babies that hatched a couple weeks ago. Their little beaks are starting to turn black and grow long, and they have downy feathers. You can see that the babies head is nearly as big as the mother's head. This time I hope to catch them learning to fly. It shouldn't be long.
Spring has sprung in Arizona. I love this time of the year!
